Meet Doctor Richard Grant
Richard Grant DDS, MS
Love for My Profession
I truly enjoy being an orthodontist and am grateful every day that I get to come to work and help fun and amazing people improve their smiles, their health, and their lives. My work brings me into contact with fascinating people, and I get a real kick out of how incredibly different each patient is, with their varied interests and hobbies. Every day I learn something new from my patients, and there’s never a dull conversation!
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an orthodontist is that I get to make a positive change in people’s lives, a change that lasts them for a lifetime. I watch previously shy patients, who are ashamed of their crooked teeth, transform into outgoing, happy people who love to smile and laugh. Their self-esteem grows and they become more confident in everything they do. It’s a pleasure to be part of this process and wonderful to watch it happen.
My Education and Commitment to Continuing Education
• Doctorate of Dental Surgery, University of Detroit Mercy
• Master of Science in orthodontics, St. Louis University.
I am a firm believer that orthodontics is a field that requires practitioners to be committed to furthering their education at every opportunity. It’s a profession where there are ongoing advances in technology, processes, and materials, and I owe it to my patients to remain informed so I can deliver the best care and treatment options available. To do anything less is not acceptable. Throughout the year I attend national and regional meetings and lectures, as well as complete many online courses, in order to stay at the leading edge of knowledge in the field.

Personal Life
I was born in Scotland and moved to the Toronto area of Canada when I was a very young boy. Now I live in Carmel Valley, with my wonderful wife and two great children. Being with my family is always my preferred way to spend time, especially if we’re hiking, traveling, or enjoying the beautiful San Diego beaches. Personal interests include motorcycles, and I am a fan of soccer, as well.
